The British Industrial Truck Association (BITA), is a substantial and dynamic trade association representing a membership of 80 forklift truck manufacturers, suppliers, service providers and media operating in the UK.
As well as being the voice of the industry in matters technical and legislative at the highest levels in Europe and internationally, BITA produces a wide range of specialist publications, encompassing best practice and health and safety assurance, as well as technical guidance notes and unique market insight.
Its member-exclusive market analysis provides an accurate picture of current market trends and is considered indispensable to companies drafting future sales strategies. The forecasting has proved extremely reliable down the years, helping many companies generate new business before their competitors.
BITA is also the sole provider of industrial truck sales statistics in the UK. The statistics are supplied by and made available exclusively to, association members. Taking the lead on improving safety standards within the Materials Handling industry, the association organises the annual National Forklift Safety Day campaign and runs the Design4Safety Awards, which recognise excellence in forklift design.
The association also carries out an important consultation role for its membership, helping to shape future legislation, especially on technical standards and safety. It enjoys a close working relationship with bodies such as the UK Health and Safety Executive, the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) and the International Standards Organisation (ISO).
As a member of the British Materials Handling Foundation (BMHF) BITA is allied with the Fédération Européenne de la Manutention (FEM), the European manufacturers’ association of materials handling, lifting and storage equipment.
